This department is headed by a consultant dentist and maxillofacial surgeon, and is one of the most important departments which provide specialised services in this field on 24 hours basis. Elective surgeries and consultations will also continue parallel with the emergency services.  State of the art facilities have already been availed and more equipment will be purchased as needed.

This is a modern diagnostic unit consisting of chemistry, microbiology and parasitology sections. Clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology and histopathology can also be provided by specialists in these fields. Basic laboratory tests are run on 24 hours basis and a blood bank back up services are also affiliated to the laboratory services to enable urgent transfusions to be done in time. Included in this department is also imaging in form of Ultrasound, x-rays, and CT scan as well as MRI and others. 

Here, all patients coming to the hospital with acute and critical illnesses are received, examined, diagnosed and urgently treated. This department collaborates with doctors from various specialties and functions 24 hours. Surgical, paediatric, obstetrics and gynaecological and medical emergencies are all sorted out here and competent medical officers are available round the hour, as well as consultant coverage 24 hours. Radiological, laboratory, and pharmaceutical services operate in conjunction with A&E to accomplish acute patients care. Operating theatres, ambulance services and other related units will also work in collaboration with the accident and emergency department. This department is awaiting exponential expansion and upgrading.

This is one of the most important departments headed by a consultant general surgeon and urologist. Acute surgical emergencies and trauma patients will be handled by this department. Elective surgical operations and 24 hours surgical consultations are also offered to patients in outpatients clinics. New techniques of surgical treatment such as minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery will also be introduced as soon as possible to cope with the recent advances in the field of surgery.

This is one of the first centres in the East African Region to render this types of recent treatments based on stem cell technology. The main area of work is in degenerative joints diseases rendering patients disabled due to chronic joints diseases. The stem cells are harvested from the abdominal wall fat cells, bone marrow and blood samples. This centre has already treated over 200 people over the last few weeks during its launching.

This is another key department in the hospital dealing with reproductive health. It is headed by one of the competent consultants in the specialisation. Here emergency obstetrics and gynaecological care will be provided. Family planning programmes which are safe and effective will also be run by this department. There will be 24 hours coverage of emergencies and urgent procedures such as caesarean section would be performed even in the middle of the night. Future plans include establishment of foetal medicine, in vitro fertilization services and diagnostic laparoscopic facilities.

Children are the backbone of any nation because they constitute future generation upon which the development and continuity of the nations depends. In any society, children constitute more than one third of the population, and therefore in planning services, bulk of the resources should be directed towards promoting the wellbeing of children if good judgement is exercised. In freedom international Hospital, the department of paediatrics medicine and child health aims to provide expert health services to children. The department is headed by one of the senior consultants of paediatrics with vast experience in the field. A number of good medical officers with interest in child health are also available to provide 24 hours coverage of A&E. Consultant’s clinics will be running round the globe. Routine children vaccination for all childhood diseases preventable through vaccination is provided as part of the services.

This is the department where most of the emergency medical conditions and chronic medical problems will be treated. This department is headed by one of the competent physician who has subspecialty in nephrology (kidney medicine) and dialysis services. Backed up by sophisticated diagnostics, the department of adult medicine will take care of the majority of patients with non-surgical conditions throughout, and on 24 hours basis.

This is another important department dealing with head and neck pathologies, mostly diseases of ear, nose and throat. An ENT surgeon will be available to attend to both emergencies and elective cases, and a clinic run on 24 hours will also be available for routine consultations.

This is also one of the important departments in FIH, as it provides public health support across all the specialties of the hospital. This is because in every clinical activity, there are public health aspects to be taken into account. The standard of cleanliness of the hospital and wastes management will be the sole responsibility of the public health department as well as expertise in management of outbreaks and infection control.

Although in some hospitals the department of occupational health falls under public health, at FIH it will exist as an entity of its own so that it can focus more on the safety of staff and tracking occupational injuries through a well-established reporting system. The department also provides counselling and treatment for injuries acquired during medical procedures.

Environment has become a backbone in any development project including establishment of hospitals. Incorporation of environmental health issues in such projects targets prevention of environmental pollution, human activities which are damaging to the environment and industrial activities that generate dangerous wastes. So, environmental health checks are vital if safety in delivering any form of service is to succeed.

Radiological services and imaging in general aids a great deal in making diagnosis and making a practical clinical decision.  This is a department that is shared across all the specialties and its effectiveness is determined by a 24 hours service provision. Imaging and interventional radiology can also be exploited by experts in various clinical disciplines to offer therapeutic approaches and minimally invasive procedures.

Advanced and costly imaging modalities such as CT, MRI and Radio-isotope scanning would be incorporated into the services as soon as resources are available.

This is another key department dealing with pharmaceutical supply for the hospital and also harbours a small laboratory for ensuring standards of medicines and for manufacturing some simple preparations. In future, freedom pharmaceutical factory for locally producing pharmaceuticals is a dream.

As the hospital grows, and the pool of experts expands, subspecialties such as colorectal surgery, urological surgery, laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery will become independent specialties and departments of their own right.
